PTA Board Meeting 05.14.2015 (Summary and Reports)

Last week was the final PTA meeting for the year and it was fun to wrap up the year on a happy note!  We have a new Board taking office June 1.  Our accomplishments (with your help) this year were many, including technology investments, thousands of dollars in new books from Book Fair proceeds and lots of upgrades to the overall school environment.  This is in large part thanks to the dedication of so many of you and the leadership of our outgoing PTA president Ann Friedholm, who will be transitioning her role to our new president, Jennifer Steben.  Look for a PTA blog entry (at prpta.org) from Jennifer soon.  Coming up this month is the last event of the year, Field Day on May 29. Come help, or just hang out!  If you would like to help out, please sign up here.. Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to help out that day. Mr. Welton has lots of fun things planned so the kids should have a great time. On behalf of the PTA board, thank you to the entire Pleasant Ridge community for making this such a successful year!

PTA Board Meeting 04.16.2015 (Summary and Reports)

There was lots to discuss at last week’s April PTA meeting.  Most importantly, thank you to everyone for making last month’s Carnival and Auction a big success!  We raised significantly more than was planned and that money goes directly back in to the school to benefit all of our kids. Thank you to the army of volunteers who helped with it and to the army of families who came to enjoy it.  Thanks to the carnival, the board was able to approve spending for several things our teachers need as well as for new Chromebook computers for next year’s 3rd grade classes.  Thank you also to those parents who have stepped up and volunteered to be on next year’s board!  The nominating committee will be meeting this week to determine the slate of candidates that will be voted on at next month’s meeting on May 14 at 9:00. All parents who are PTA members are eligible to vote, so please come to that meeting if you can. Thanks so much!

PTA Board Meeting 03.12.2015 (Summary and Reports)

Happy Spring!  At the PTA meeting last Thursday, we had a special guest, David Holden, the VP of the School Board.  He was there to explain the school district’s upcoming bond proposal for next November.  It was great to hear that the district wants to invest in Pleasant Ridge and make some much-needed repairs and improvements, including addressing the security and safety of the school. You’ll be hearing more about the bond proposal in the coming months, when community meetings will be held.  We also talked about all the plans for all the great things going on this month, including the School Dance and Book Fair last Friday (thank you to Mr. Bezeau for entertaining us with lots of great music!). Thank you to the volunteers and to those who came to the dance and bought pizza and lots of great stuff at the Book Fair! All of that raises money for the PTA.  You’ll be hearing this again and again – the Auction and Carnival are coming up on March 28, so please volunteer, tell your friends, and come and enjoy the fun.  Look for the Auction Catalog to come home with your kids later this week. This year, you can even bid online for some items before the event, so be sure to take a look at the fantastic things that are up for auction. Also, please look at the PTA nominating form that came home last week and think about volunteering to join us next year.  Due to Spring Break next month, the April meeting will be on Thursday, April 16 at 9 a.m., so please come if you can.

PTA Board Meeting 02.05.2015 (Summary and Reports)

The February PTA meeting was last Thursday and we were happy to see some new faces there – thanks for coming!  We know it isn’t easy to find the time to come, especially for working parents.  Thank you also to everyone who has volunteered to chair or help out with the events that are planned for the next couple of months.  There’s a lot going on and we’re grateful for the help.  Much of the meeting was spent talking about the upcoming Carnival and Auction, which will be on Saturday, March 28.  There will be lots of fun games and lots of great things to bid on at the auction, so please make sure to come join the fun, and invite family and friends to come, too.  Also coming up at Pleasant Ridge:  Art Night this week on 2/12, the Science Fair on 2/26, a super fun School Dance on 3/13 and Reading Month all throughout March.  During March, please start to think about whether you might be interested in joining the board next year and look for some information that will be coming home with your child mid-month. Next month’s meeting will be on March 12 at 9:00 a.m. so please join us if you can.  Thank you!

PTA Board Meeting 01.09.2015 (Summary and Reports)

Happy New Year from the PTA!  The new year promises to be a busy one at our school. At the monthly board meeting last week, we talked about lots of fun upcoming events, including Math Night on 1/28, Art Night on 2/12, the Science Fair on 2/26, the School Dance on 3/13 and our big fundraising event, the Carnival and Auction on 3/28. As always, volunteers are most welcome to help out with any of these events. Look for a Volunteer Request form that will be coming home soon and let us know if there is anything on that list that you can help with.  We also talked about some more things that we hope to purchase for our teachers soon, like bulletin boards, good pencil sharpeners and workroom tools.  Our teachers are the best, so we want to do whatever we can to help them do a great job. Our next PTA meeting will be on Feb. 5 at 9:00 a.m. and we hope to see lots of new faces there!

The monthly meeting is not just for the board – it’s for anyone who’s interested in what’s going on at the school, so please come if you can. Thank you!

PTA Board Meeting 12.11.2014 (Summary and Reports)

Happy Holidays from the PTA! The PR PTA board met last week to talk about how things have been going. The Pancake Supper and the Book Fairs went very well and we’re very grateful to everyone who came and helped out with those events. The funds we raised will help us continue to enhance our kids’ education at Pleasant Ridge.  We also approved funding for more kindergarten literacy materials as well as for field hockey equipment for physical education. Thank you to all those who helped provide dinner to our teachers during conferences and to those who helped create the Holiday Wish Wall. The teachers are very grateful!  We appreciate all that you can do to help. Look for more fun events coming in the new year, like Math Night, Art Night and the Science Fair. PTA Board Meeting 11.13.2014 (Summary and Reports)

The PR PTA board met last week and we have some really great news to report: fundraising is going very well so far this year!  Thanks to all of you, the 80’s Dance-a-thon Fundraiser was lots of fun and a huge success – we raised over $17,500!  At the meeting, we discussed some of the things that will be purchased, like more iPads, more books for classroom libraries (yes, books!) and other technology enhancements for our media center.  We also went over plans for the upcoming Pancake Supper, the theme of which will be “Cloudy with a Chance of Pancakes”, as well as the Teacher Conference Dinners, Teacher Wish Wall and the Saline Holiday Parade.  We’re so grateful to all of you for stepping up and helping out with so many things.  There are still openings for chairs and volunteers at some of our upcoming events, so please let us know if you’re able to help.

PTA Board Meeting 09.11.2014 (Summary and Committee Reports)

The PR PTA had it’s first board meeting of the year and were happily surprised that the staff provided a delicious appreciation breakfast.  During the meeting we discussed plans for the district to contribute to the landscaping at Pleasant Ridge with the opportunity for the PTA to add their own touch in a creative project.  We went over plans for our fall fundraiser and are preparing to don our 80’s gear to help the kids get excited for their fundraiser’s 80’s Dance-a-thon! There are still events waiting for someone to act as the chair with the PTA’s support.  We appreciate all that you can do to help, whether you are able to give an hour a day, a week, or a year.  We will keep you posted online and would be glad if you are able to make our meetings in person.
